Karen Dinesen Blixen lived in Kenya from to She came there from the icy Denmark with her husband, baron Von Blixen, to buy a plot on the hills Ngong, near Nairobi, and build then a farm. Rather being a farmer, the baron was actually more interested in the big game hunting and the young masai women. It was his fault that Karen was infected by syphilis and had to come back to Denmark to follow treatments. At that moment, she realized she was a writer and learned what is mal d'Afrique.
The film is based loosely on the autobiographical book Out of Africa written by Isak Dinesen the pseudonym of Danish author Karen Blixen , which was published in , with additional material from Dinesen's book Shadows on the Grass and other sources. The book was adapted into a screenplay by the writer Kurt Luedtke, and filmed in Karen Blixen recalls her life in Africa where in she, as an unmarried wealthy Danish woman, is spurned by her Swedish nobleman lover and accepts a marriage proposal from his brother Baron Bror Blixen , who moves to the vicinity of Nairobi , British East Africa. Using her funds, he is to set up a cattle ranch, with her joining him a few months later, at which time they will complete this marriage of convenience. She is greeted at the train station by Farah, the Somali headman hired by Bror, who is nowhere to be found. She is taken to the recently founded Muthaiga Club. She enters the men-only bar to ask for her husband and, because of her gender, is asked to leave.
