Holiday 1938 - full movie

Holiday is a American romantic comedy film directed by George Cukor , a remake of the film of the same name. Horton reprised his role as Professor Nick Potter from the version. Although Hepburn had been Hope Williams' understudy in the original production of the play on Broadway , she only played the part for one performance. He knows very little about his bride-to-be, and is surprised to learn that she is from an extremely wealthy family, the daughter of banker Edward Seton Henry Kolker. Case then meets Julia's vivacious sister, Linda Katharine Hepburn , to whom he confides his plan to take a long holiday from work to find the meaning of life. He then meets the sisters' alcoholic brother, Ned Lew Ayres , whose spirit has been broken by subservience to their father.

Indeed a dynamic team. Love that phrase of yours 'casual comfort level'! Margaret, what a great posting - and a great idea to focus on a different Hepburn partnership rather than her work with Cukor and Tracy. She and Grant make a great team! I've just enjoyed reading all four of your full pieces on these films, which give a lot of food for thought and background information. My own favourite out of these four is 'The Philadelphia Story', but I do fume over the way Hepburn's character is blamed for everything from her husband's alcoholism to her father's affair, so was very interested to see your take on this and your argument that James Stewart's character is "tamed" as much as Hepburn's. I also like 'Holiday' a lot, and think Lew Ayres gives a fine performance as the brother - I feel I should love 'Bringing Up Baby' more than I do, as fan of Hawks and both stars, but maybe I was in the wrong mood for it when I saw it, as I found it too frantic.

It was fun to play with him, and I think he had a good time too. After making her film debut in A Bill Of Divorcement , Katharine Hepburn had formed two notable partnerships with director, George Cukor, and Cary Grant, in which they appeared in four movies together. While exhausting your way through the four film collaboration of Hepburn and Grant, you come to discover that their ephemeral partnership was a gift from heaven. These were two stars who produced magic together, and had the talent to reduce you to laughter even when your facing your darkest days, and a smile is the hardest thing to pull off. I personally would have liked to have seen Cary Grant appear alongside both Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn in a movie, but I can only dream. You had to look at her, you had to listen to her; there was no escaping her.
