Spandau Ballet fans may have to wait a while if they are to see the band perform live again. Martin Kemp has revealed that Spandau Ballet will now never perform until former singer Tony Hadley agrees to return. The '80s group have been performing on and off for over 30 years, but Tony shocked fans by quitting the band in July Since then, the band carried on with new singer and actor Ross William Wild. However, Martin told This Morning that the band have "shelved" plans to perform again, and that the chances are reuniting are slim. He told Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby: "The band stopped playing, and we thought it would be really cool if we took out Ross William Wild, who was a lovely man, and a lovely singer.
Despite the fact that his meaty voice is pretty key to the band, Tony spectacularly announced he was no longer part of it in July So why did Tony throw the towel in? Well yes, hopefully. Tony, who is now 58 and a dad-of-five, has been striking out on his own since the early 90s after the band first disbanded. Hadley has made no secret of the fact that gigging as a solo act has been much more lucrative than being in Spandau, and claims was his best year financially. This has not changed and was the last time we were able to perform or work with him. So we have now made the decision to move on as a band.
The New Romantic band were left without a frontman when Tony made the decision in to quit the group and after playing some shows with new singer, West End performer Ross William Wild, last summer the remaining members came to the decision that it didn't work without all five original members. We tried that for about six or seven shows through Europe and it was great fun. But what I kind of started to realise what people really want is the five of us together. And I think what we should to do to be fair to that is to put it into a box and let it sit there until that happens. When co-host Phillip Schofield asked him if the group had decided to end touring, he confirmed: "Until Tony comes back It's not just Tony, all five of us. Listen, my band is so volatile, one minute we are the best friends then we fall out, it has always been that way.
Tony Hadley has one of the most recognisable voices of the s, thanks to his time as Spandau Ballet frontman. The 'True' singer is back with a brand new solo album, and here's all the big info you need to know:. In July , Tony Hadley released a brief statement saying he was no longer part of Spandau Ballet , but didn't elaborate on exactly why. Spandau Ballet later admitted that, although Tony's departure was "frustrating", they are treating it as a "new chapter" for them. They famously split in due to a row over royalties, but eventually reunited in for a huge reunion tour and new album. The new singer was unveiled a special one-off gig in London.
