Braun Strowman , Samoa Joe and Roman Reigns Brock Lesnar went to hell and back and after receiving a horrific beatdown at the hands of Braun Strowman earlier, that saw Lesnar being driven through two announcer's table and being carried away on a stretcher, retained his Universal Championship with an F5 on Roman Reigns.
Thirteen matches were contested at the event, including three on the pre-show. The event featured eight championship matches, the most for a SummerSlam event, where five of the titles changed hands. The card featured thirteen matches, including three on the pre-show, that resulted from scripted storylines, where wrestlers portrayed villains , heroes , or less distinguishable characters in scripted events that built tension and culminated in a wrestling match or series of matches, with results predetermined by WWE's writers on the Raw and SmackDown brands. As Angle was about to reveal his plans for Lesnar's championship match at SummerSlam, they were interrupted by Reigns, who said that he wanted to face Lesnar at SummerSlam, but Lesnar said that he did not deserve it. Joe then came out and claimed that Lesnar did not beat him, but merely escaped him at Great Balls of Fire.
WWE SummerSlam is highlighted by marquee world title matches for Brock Lesnar and Jinder Mahal, the top champions on two shows heading in different directions. The second biggest pay-per-view of the year, SummerSlam will consist of a two-hour "Kickoff" pre-show and a four-plus hour main show that features most of the company's top stars. The link between those two PPVs? They were both main-evented by Mahal, who has not proven to be a capable draw or PPV headliner. There is speculation that Mahal will hold the title for another couple of months because of a possible live event in India, but with Mahal's struggles to get over there and the adverse effect his push has had on the blue brand, it's time for a change.
Braun Strowman pushed an announce table on Brock Lesnar Sunday night after putting him through two others, forcing Lesnar to leave the arena on a stretcher. This night would be no different. I have a hard time thinking anyone in WWE thought the stands would be packed by the time they decided to put this match on the Network. Before the preshow started, two hours before the main card was supposed to take the air, Renee Young said that the doors had just opened. This match went on less than a half hour later. Would everyone be in their seats by then? Probably not.
WWE SummerSlam threw up myriad surprise results, twists and turns and a spectacular main event. Fans were left shocked with championship changes across WWE's women's division, with the show gradually getting better as it went on. The event culminated with Brock Lesnar defending the Universal Championship in a brutal and explosive contest. Lesnar was inevitably one of the night's big winners. Here are the rest of the winners and losers from SummerSlam. It certainly wasn't pretty, and it certainly wasn't clean, but the Jinder Mahal experience looks set to continue for a good while yet following another huge victory on Sunday.
