Nomadi or I Nomadi , meaning " Nomads " is an Italian band formed in and still present on the music scene. I Nomadi sprang from one of the most fervent periods of the Italian music scene: the s. In those years an economic boom revealed an Italy economically enriched but already socially impoverished. Tens, if not hundreds, of groups appeared and disappeared attempting to express the voice of a youth who felt repressed by a society still permeated with antiquated conventions. In the same year Nomadi were signed by Frankfurt Bar in Riccione. Franco Midilli had to leave the group that summer for compulsory military service. Their first hit was 's "Come potete giudicar" How Can You Judge , which was actually the cover of Sonny Bono 's "The Revolution Kind" , anthem of the Italian beat generation , which exemplifies the clash between hippies and conservatives.
Not a prog band, and a marginal inclusion here, the Nomadi have been in their long career, that still lasts today with a different line up, one of the most loved Italian groups, with a cult following that has given them many hits. Sometimes their albums are mentioned in foreign dealers' lists as "prog", but be warned, they're by no means a progressive band! I Nomadi started in and their first single came in with Donna la prima donna. With a repertoire initially based on cover versions by the likes of Dion, Sonny Bono, Moody Blues the band had many hits in the 60's playing a beat inspired pop. Their first album in , Per quando noi non ci saremo , is usually considered as one of the most important Italian beat albums, also notable for being not just a singles compilation as it was the case with most Italian artists' LP's at the time but a concept album on youth problems.
