Although we have some adjustments in mind, player response to the current list has been very good. Tournament attendance is way up and players are pretty happy. You can find the latest update in its usual spot. The update goes into effect on Monday, August 29th. You can find both of them here. We constantly monitor the Decks and cards used at sanctioned events of all levels, from the Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series all the way down to local tournaments.

Archetypes have come and gone, metas have changed and TV seasons have passed. Sure, a card or two is removed or added every now and again, but the core banned cards have always been the same. These cards were actually unbanned at one point, long long ago. Drawing 3 cards and discarding 2 seems like a fair trade but when you consider how many cards take advantage of this, it has to be banned. The Dark World archetype in particular are guilty of abusing Graceful Charity, almost all decks nowadays would make use of this banned card. Adding 5 cards to your hand is absurdly overpowered and can turn a losing game into an easy victory.

With the introduction of new game mechanics coming to the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG with the release of the new anime series , Konami has released the forbidden and limited list that goes into effect starting March 31, There are a lot of changes to the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG with this new list and powerful cards are making a comeback. The aforementioned game mechanics that come with the introduction of Link summoning has slowed down summoning from the Extra Deck and limited how many Extra Deck monsters can be on the field at one time. While there are ways around it namely special summoning them from the graveyard after they are destroyed these returning cards were likely taken off the forbidden list to help duelists summon them faster. Almost all tournaments follows the Advanced format, which has many forbidden and limited cards. Forbidden cards are not allowed anywhere near your deck. Limited cards are those that you can only have one of in your deck and Semi-Limited are those that you can only have two of in your deck, instead of the usual three. Cards are banned in order to keep the game interesting. Without these lists, tournament matches will just be a game of luck: whoever draws the super powerful card first will win. In some cases, if both players get a strong starting hand, it might even be whoever goes first wins.
