Roasted quail, pasta with rabbit, cheese flan, cool jazz , modern look.. The chef speaks some English. Nice place to dine in modern way with a heavy brisk of local culinary tradition. Wines from small local producers - followers of bio technology. This is a lovely restaurant.
Trattoria San Giovanni offers excellent food of high quality at reasonable price. The premises are far larger than might appear from the main entrance and stretch some way along a side street - hence the need for a bell, as staff may all be busy serving guests further to the rear. This was our first meal in Piacenza and in some ways set the bar for food quality. The local "tortelli" ravioli with herbs, butter and sage was easily the best of several similar dishes we tried during this visit to Italy. An extensive range of local regional wines are available at particularly attractive prices, and a wider than usual selection of half bottles lets you try more than one! This is a lovely restaurant on a side street, in the center of the old town.
Found this restaurant on TripAdvisor. So glad we came to try it. A lovely restaurant with a small back garden seating. The food was really delicious. And the owner was very kind and welcoming. Recommend this place.
I originally suggested this restaurant, after reading its excellent online reviews, for my husband who was on business in Piacenza.

We came here for dinner on our last night in Piacenza. Trattoria San Giovanni offered maybe the best pork dish I've ever had. Long cooking time made the meat tender and it was perfect with some local young red wine. My girlfriend chose fowl but that turned out to be a bit too salty even for her taste. And we forgot to order a sidedish to go with the main course The place was open already at about 7 pm which suited us as we wanted to eat early, not being used to late dinners like everyone else seems to be doing. And they updated the English menu on the spot, and the chef spoke good English so we got some help with choosing the food.
Trattoria San Giovanni. A simple yet welcoming restaurant with old domical vaulted ceilings provides the setting for dishes from Lombardy and Emilia. These include hams and salamis from Piacenza, traditional pisarei pasta, tortelli a type of ravioli , and plenty of meat options, from tartares to stews. Osteria del Trentino da Marco. Antica Trattoria Braghieri. Residence Croce. Grande Albergo Roma.
